Few things scream summer in the city quite like a frilly, floaty sundress—you know the dress I mean. It’s the kind of dress you slip into before meandering through the streets with an iced coffee or strolling through the park or grabbing a patio brunch. It’s the kind of dress that seems to dance effortlessly around you, light as the rays of sun themselves. It’s the kind of dress that Dakota Johnson just rocked while filming in New York City.
The ethereal dress in question was a long, semi-sheer number in a buttery yellow, complete with an airy ruffled neckline and a floaty, flirty skirt. The dress was covered with a soft yellow and purple floral print. She paired the dress with a pair of oversized cat-eye sunglasses and a simple twisted updo.
Dakota Johnson Wore the Quietly Sexy Denim Trend I’m All in On
Johnson wore the dress while filming the upcoming rom-comThe Materialists, Celine Song’s second feature after last year’s Past Lives. The film, which is set to feature a love triangle between Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal, has been filming in New York for several weeks—and it’s already shaping up to be an absolute masterclass in New York chic style. Just last week, Johnson was spotted wearing a divine strapless silk dress in a striking cobalt blue and in April, she made the case of well-cut basics, wearing a black crop top with a pair of ultra-wide jeans.
The other thing that The Materialists is shaping up to be? Very, very Sex and the City-coded. Set in New York City, the plot features a (seemingly very well-dressed) matchmaker whose “lucrative business gets complicated when she falls into a toxic love triangle that threatens her clients.”
While wearing her perfect yellow summer dress, Johnson appeared to be filming a scene with a suited and booted Evans that took place on the steps of a brownstone—and it doesn’t get more Carrie and Aidan than that. The only thing missing from the scene was a pair of six-inch Manolo Blahniks. Johnson’s character instead opted for a pair of Nike sneakers.
Another scene from the film appears to feature Johnson and Evans sharing a cheeky cigarette outside of a bar—again, we are getting some serious Carrie Bradshaw flashbacks.
